Tuesday afternoon's wildfire between Bender Road and Kelly Road near Roundup has been "knocked down pretty good," said Musselshell County Sheriff Woody Weitzeil.

Several planes dropped fire retardant around the perimeter of the blaze protecting about ten structures, some of which were a mere 50 yards from approaching flames.

Wednesday morning Weitzeil said smoke and flames could no longer be seen from the fire, but the area will be monitored carefully.

"It won't be out be out until snow flies," he said.

The fire managed to char about 100 to 150 acres before fire crews from Bull Mountain, Hawk Creek, Musselshell County and the Bureau of Land Management were able to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
