A 51-year-old Shepherd man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a deer at the intersection of Old Highway 312 and Dover Road at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

The man, whose name has not been released, was driving east on 312 when he hit a deer and was thrown from the motorcycle, according to MHP.

It was unknown Saturday afternoon if the man had been drinking, but speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash.

The man was pronounced dead at the crash. He was not wearing a helmet, according to investigating trooper David Munson.
