74 World War II veterans and one terminally ill Korean War vet have departed Billings for Washington D.C., on the eighth Honor Flight.

Veterans and their escorts, a medical team and flight organizers gathered at the airport beginning well before 6 a.m. today.

They received T-shirts, breakfast and instructions before boarding a chartered jet headed for the nation's capital.

While in D.C., they'll take in many sights in a whirlwind tour of monuments before returning to Billings at 8:15 p.m. on Monday.

The public is welcome and encouraged to welcome the veterans home at the airport. Supporters should gather at the airport at 8 p.m. Parking will be free in the overflow lot west of the airport and a shuttle will be provided.
