Spring-like weather might have made an appearance last week, but the season has not arrived for Billings.

Well ... maybe the spring showers part.

A low pressure system, moving east through Wyoming will combine with cold air from Canada Sunday night and drop significant amounts of water on Billings.

About .37 inches of rain had fallen at the Billings Logan International Airport by 4 p.m. Sunday, and another tenth was expected.

As temperatures drop to 27 Sunday night, rain will become snow.

"It's going to bring a 100 percent chance of snow to Billings tonight," said Julie Arthur, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Billings. "We're looking at 3 to 5 inches."

The snow, which could be heavy at times, will definitely be wet and water-laden, she said.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that begins Sunday at 6 p.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. Monday.

The brunt of the storm is expected in southeast Montana. A blizzard warning has been issued in Fallon and Carter Counties.

"They're expecting 8 to 10 inches tonight," she said.

By Monday morning, conditions are expected to die down in Billings, but Southeast Montana will experience heavy winds and blowing snow throughout the day.

"We're not going to have any wind issues in Billings, but if you were going to Southeast Montana, look out for the wind," she said.

On Monday, highs won't reach above 36, and skies should be mostly cloudy.

Precipitation is expected to taper off by Monday night as skies remain mostly cloudy and lows reach 26.

The rest of the week doesn't look to have any big systems moving through, but there are still chances for showers, Arthur said. Temperatures during the day will reach the mid 40s.
