On Friday and Saturday, nearly 100 middle and high school students from Yellowstone County will participate in Youth in Action 2012, a global youth service day event.

The event begins with team building activities at 6 p.m. Friday at the Shrine Auditorium. Also at the event kickoff, American Red Cross volunteers will teach Youth in Action 2012 participants "citizen CPR" skills.

Participants spend Saturday working on volunteer service projects with Billings Parks and Recreation, Family Service Inc., Habitat for Humanity, Head Start Inc., Montana Conservation Corps, Pictograph Cave State Park, United Way of Yellowstone County, Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, and ZooMontana. Projects include mural painting, trail building, planting vegetables, helping families in need, and caring for animals.

Youth in Action 2012 concludes with a carnival celebration Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shrine Auditorium.
