ZooMontana's family-friendly New Year's Eve event has been canceled and the zoo will be closed through the weekend due to snow and cold temperatures.

The closure will allow zookeepers to get in and out of the facility faster, according to the announcement.

The zoo will also be closed on New Year's Day.

Cancellation of the event, called Noon Year's Eve, was announced Thursday on the ZooMontana Facebook page. The event had been scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday and would have included sledding, animal encounters and an apple juice and ginger ale toast after a noon ball drop.
