ZooMontana is planning an event so kids and their families can enjoy the zoo's amenitites.
Kids Fest will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 16 and will feature family-friendly activities and entertainment.
Admissions close one hour before the grounds close.
"The big thing is we want kids to come to the zoo and have a good time," said Interim Director Jeff Ewelt. "The zoo is there for everybody, but it's the kids we want to focus on that day."
Ewelt said they will have clowns, bounce houses and hopefully a funnel cake cart to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth, making time for "good old-fashioned Saturday fun."
The zoo also hopes to provide a few animal encounters.
"We'll definitely have our rabbit out, I'm sure, but maybe we'll have some reptiles and birds of prey," Ewelt said."The big thing is we want to instill in the local kids, as well as tourists, that the zoo is a fun place and you can learn a lot and have fun at the same time."
It's one step Ewelt is taking to provide more family events at the zoo. He said they also hope to schedule staying open later one day a week so working families also may enjoy the zoo.
Ewelt said he hopes to have the later hours set in the upcoming weeks.
