Ernest L. Flynn of Billings was one of only two people selected by DAV (Disabled American Veterans) to receive the 2014 George H. Seal Memorial Trophy for extraordinary volunteerism. The award will be presented to him by DAV National Commander Joseph Johnston at the organization’s 93rd National Convention in Las Vegas.

In the service

(1 PHOTO)Jason Daviau of Billings has joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as a health care specialist. Daviau will attend Army basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., and then attend the military health care training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He has been assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-163rd Cavalry Regiment in Belgrade. Daviau currently works for American Medical Response.

(1 PHOTO)Henry Oyler of Billings has joined the Montana Army National Guard. Oyler will attend Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and then attend fire fighting school at Good Fellow AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to the 1051st Engineer Detachment, Fire Fighters, in Helena. Oyler is employed by Montana State University Billings and also attends school there.

(1 PHOTO)Thomasina McKay of Billings joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as an automated logistical specialist. McKay graduated in 2013. She will attend Army basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., and also attend logistics school at Fort Lee, Va. McKay has been assigned to the 1063rd Support Maintenance Company in Billings. She is studying physical therapy at Montana State University Billings.

(1 PHOTO)Kevin Stein of Billings has joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as a military fire fighter. Stein will attend Army basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and then attend fire fighting school at Good Fellow AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to the 1052nd Engineer Detachment, Fire Fighting, in Helena. Stein is associated with the Blue Creek Fire Department and the Laurel Ambulance Service. He also plans to attend flight school and complete the Army’s Warrant Officer Program.

(1 PHOTO)Matson Shumway of Billings has joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as an infantryman. Shumway will attend Army basic training and infantry school at Fort Benning, Ga. He has been assigned to A Company, 1-163rd Cavalry in Billings. He attends Montana State University Billings and is a member of the ROTC. program there.

(1 PHOTO)Jerrid Bergum of Joliet has joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as a multichannel transmission system operator-maintainer. A 2014 graduate of Joliet High, Bergum will attend Army basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and will then attend the signal school in Fort Gordon, Ga. He has been assigned to the 443rd Signal Company. Bergum plans to attend dental school in the fall.

(1 PHOTO)Connor McKamy of Molt has joined the Montana Army National Guard and has chosen to serve as an infantryman. McKamy will graduate from West High in 2015 and will attend Army basic training and infantry school at Fort Benning, Ga. He has been assigned to Detachment 1, Company A, 1-163rd Cavalry in Lewistown. McKamy is currently employed at a movie theater. He plans to attend the U.S. Army’s Ranger School.

(4 PHOTOS)Triangle Communications (Triangle) awarded 32 $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and three scholarships to continuing undergraduates undergraduate students attending an accredited university, college or trade school and whose family receives local telephone service from Triangle. Local students include Geoffery Heiken, Kourtney Schott and Morgan Beckett, all of Broadview, and Kaari Hultgren of Molt. Winning applicants were selected based on complete online applications, academic performance, leadership, achievements, employment, volunteerism and a personal statement. Rebecca Schreier, D.O., of Billings, graduated with a degree of doctor of osteopathic medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W. Va. Schreier had earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Montana State University Billings.

Zachary Wilson of Billings has been named to the spring dean’s list at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.

Caitlin Mckenzie Koski of Billings has graduated from the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., with a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering.

Alex Gallagher of Billings, a 2011 West High graduate, has earned academic distinction of dean's first honors for the spring semester at the University of San Diego.

Brenna Boese of Billings has earned a place on the dean's honor roll for outstanding scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., with a 3.50-3.74 grade point average in any two terms of the year.

Local students graduated from Montana State University-Bozeman this spring. Students with ** after their name graduated with highest honors with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.70. Undergraduate students with * after their names graduated with honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 to 3.69.

Billings students who are currently attending the University of Montana in Missoula have received scholarships from UM. Phillip Timothy Griffin and Kaitlin Wagner have each received a $1,750 Bonhomme Scholarship. Katy Warner has received a $2,000 Van Bramer Scholarship.

Madeleine Duncan and Elliott Mackin, both of Billings, were named to the dean’s list for the maintaining a 3.4 GPA average or higher for the full 2013-2014 academic year at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.

Alex Flanagan of Billings was named to the spring dean’s list at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.

Glen Disque of Billings has earned his MBA-Management and Strategy from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ty Reichenbach of Billings has been named to the spring dean’s list at American International College in Springfield, Mass.
