Please I'm so tired of people saying people/companies need to pay their "fair share" the fact is we still need to have the tax holiday because if you look at our neighbors in North Dakota that's where the oil companies want to work so we need to make it attractive for companies to work in Montana !!

The oil companies are in NoDAK because that is where the oil is, not because of the taxes. If the taxes were the highest in the nation they would still be there.

Still Here

Bucket, You really believe it is the taxes that will bring in the Oil Companies. If there is Oil they come. They Take and they Leave, it is that simple. They come for the money, They don't give a rip about You, your Town, our State. It is all about profit. They need to pay for the impact they create, Profits at $90.00 oil, they call this windfall. Please remember that big oil did to this country in the 80's, they left a lot of people holding an empty bag. As far as the State Legislature, they have paid those boys and girls plenty, They are the oil companies lap dogs. they do as they are told.

Let me tell you the "evil" oil companies profit margins are less than 10% seems to me that's just good business and they are trying to keep their product afford able you can blame Obama for the high prices by not allowing these companies to access lands that are rich with oil because some tree hugging liberal like yourself doesn't want a caribou to have to walk a hundred yards around a drilling pad or under an elevated pipeline and guess what ask the local business owners how they like that evil oil money!!!

I live in the Sidney area and see the direct impact that the oil co. have on our community, I dont get a "holiday tax" to keep me in Eastern Mt. I cant believe that these bills have been tables, what are they thinking? Have they been to our community and the surrounding areas to see the effects of this? Anytime our school and community can benefit it should be a no brainer!
I dont for one second believe the oil co. profits are only 10% & I have to pay my fair share of taxes and the oil is here in Montana wether we make it "attractive" for them to come or not. And to call the writer a tree hugging Liberal is a little ridiculous, and I cant remember the last time I seen a caribou walking in my corn field. I hope that the people in Helena pull their heads out and do whats right for our communities!

Hockeydaddyo how many jobs do you create??

hockeydad

Buckethead 44 i have created about as many jobs as you have. this isnt about how many jobs the oil creates or doesnt create it is about them paying taxes so the communities can benifit! If you have been to one of the communites where the population has almost doubled because of the activity you will see it is hard for any business to compete with the higher wages the oil co. pay, Not to mention affordable housing for people to be able to live here to help with the influx of people like the hospital & law enforcement. Maybe you need to reread what the article says and quit acting like your a republican oil company owner!

Ok the oil companies may not pay taxes for 18 months but here are some facts for you! The company men that the oil companies hire to over see the drilling process make at least $1500 dollars a day for a 12 hour shift so that means there are usually two company men per rig that means they are grossing a combined daily pay of $3000 that they pay taxes on then there is the whole drilling crew which is employed by a company hired to drill the hole for the oil company so all of its employees pay taxes and even the drilling company pays taxes because they are not one of your so called "evil" oil companies! Then there is the rigging crew that is hired by the drilling company to transport the rig in which all of its employees pay taxes and the rigging company also pays taxes because again they are not a "big" oil company then there are the trucking companies that haul heavy and fresh water to the rig many of which are small mom and pop companies with one to five set ups they are payed by the oil company and their employees must pay taxes along with the trucking company so I'm hoping your liberal brain has been able to wrap your brain about what I've just said even though the oil companies themselves don't pay taxes for the first 18 months they still pay many taxes!

Bucket44

Oh yeah and I spent 2 years in the Sidney area it's not that bad quit complaining

hockeydad

Bucket44 I think that you are missing the point here.. yes the workers pay their fair share of taxes but it is the oil companies that are making the biggest profit that get the 18 month holiday break! The money that should be paid for the holiday tax can go towards the roads that the heavy water tanks drive on ect.. The guy writing this article is very well educated on the matter and has done some research and is not just speaking from a "liberal" point of view. He is obviously wanting to make a difference in the communities that have had the biggest impact!

hockeydad

Is this a done deal did they not pass this and why?? It is written in black and white how this is going to benifit our community and they are not even gonna pass it?
