Thank you, Big Sky Little League All-Stars, for reminding me of the beauty of a great game, one meant to be played and coached by people dedicated to an ideal that when individual skills are melded with unselfish commitments to team goals, something great can happen.
As a sports fan, I am disappointed about what has happened to sports as they developed into businesses marked by obscene amounts of money, inflated egos, cheating and ticket prices prohibiting the live enjoyment of games by those who might most appreciate and gain valuable lessons from them.
Where have Roger Kahn's "The Boys of Summer" gone, the ones that brought a community together, provided lifetime memories and valuable roles models? I thought they were lost forever, until these pasts several weeks.
Billings Big Sky Little Leaguers and coaches, you are our "Boys of Summer," and we will never forget you and the examples you provided about how to play and coach and, maybe more than that, how to live our own lives.
