Special SD2 meeting raises suspicion

There appears to some kind of deception and manipulation of School District 2's Board of Trustees by the chair of the board and Superintendent Keith Beeman.

Last Friday, the chair suddenly scheduled a special meeting for Sept. 13 to vote on the extension of Dr. Beeman's contract and to approve $1 million for facilities planning. These two items were scheduled to be discussed at the regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 26 where the public could weigh in on them. There has been no announcement given to the public about this special meeting and a very short notice given to the board. From the public's point of view, these kind of actions appear to be deceitful — breaking with the public's right to know.

Apparently, this is not the first time an incident like this has occurred. Information has been withheld from certain board members in the past that have created an air of deception and manipulation.

These kind of actions must stop. The superintendent's contract may not be renewed but the chair may find herself voted out by the public at the next election. The public's right to know and participate is paramount.
