Carol Metzler's insurance story in The Billings Gazette July 15 is much too common these days. Two things insurance companies are good at: Collecting your premiums and denying claims. State Farm's corporate culture goes way back on both counts. They are the best of the best.
We all know our premiums reflect loss from hurricanes in the east and southeast and fires in the west and southwest, so there is little reason for State Farm to refuse to renew her policy and, in fact, blackballing her with other insurance carriers. If there is not more to this story, the State Insurance Commissioner should summon State Farm to show cause why their privilege to sell insurance in this state should not be revoked.
