Once upon a time Montana sent people like Thomas Walsh, Burton K. Wheeler and Mike Mansfield to the U.S. Senate.

Today we have a choice between two idiots who accuse each other of voting for the increase in the debt limit which prevented the shutdown of the entire federal government.

In the race for the U.S. House, the winning Republican candidate spent all his time and a considerable amount of money in denying that he was a moderate, as if that was a four-letter word.

In my time, the Montana Television Network refused to broadcast attack ads and would not allow any political ad in its newscasts so that it would not appear partisan or mislead the viewers into believing it was an endorsement or a news story.

Change may be inevitable, but it ain't necessarily good.
