During the past two weeks I have been very proud of our congressional representatives for the stand they have taken on behalf of education. Sen. Baucus co-authored a letter to the Senate with Sen. Collins to increase funding to the Federal TRiO programs and voiced strong concern about the Department of Education's willful disregard for funding existing, proven programs like TRiO over new initiatives that are unproven. Sen. Tester signed the letter of support to demonstrate his commitment, even though he sits on the appropriations committee.
Congressman Rehberg, chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health, Human Services and Education, held a hearing with Secretary Duncan from the Department of Education. Rehberg challenged the Secretary for the Department of Education's disregard of priority programs like TRiO and IDEA that have proven track records as opposed to new initiatives like Race to the Top.
When it comes to education, I'm proud that we have three prominent members that protect the educational needs of our rural state. Thanks to these gentlemen for their hard work and efforts!
