The team from Big Sky Little League captivated many of us over the past few weeks. Having a son in the league, as well as coaching in it, it was a great honor to be part of a group represented by such a great array of individuals.

However, it was something non-baseball-related that also caught my attention.

The team returned to Billings on Sunday night to a large group of supporters. As these boys and their coaches walked down the stairs, you could tell that they were tired and ready to return to a more normal schedule, but as most of the other travelers grabbed their bags and left, the group from Big Sky stayed.

They hung around to show their appreciation for all those who showed up. They greeted well-wishers with hugs, handshakes, high fives, etc. They showed the same poise and commitment that made them successful in the first place.

So as we celebrate these boys (dare I say young men) over the next few weeks and beyond, let's also honor their coaches, parents and families.  Amid all the media exposure and other potential distractions, they were able to keep the team grounded, or real as they called it. This team lived out their dreams but were taught how to show proper respect, and remain true to each other. This leadership not only made them winners on the field, but will make them heroes and roles models off of it.

Congratulations to each and every one involved.
