Being the mom of a Big Sky All Stars Little Leaguer is truly special, but this year it was a bit more. I am proud to have even a small part in it. We watch as our young ones take the field for the first time, and at first it seems they won't get the hang of it. Then when they get their very first crack of the bat and the ball flies, their little faces light up and from then on they are hooked ... and so are we.
I love this game. Moms of Little Leaguers watch as their boys give their best at each and every at-bat. Our hearts ache if they make mistakes. We rally together at every game, winning or losing. We make new friends. We cheer. We laugh. We cry. We hug. We pray that our sons and daughters do well and make good choices, not just on the field but in life as well.
Our boys have stolen the hearts of people all over the nation. They have brought back the true meaning of what it means to be a Little League baseball player. The rallying of all the people to support our boys was, for lack of a better word, awesome! I will forever remember where I was the day Ben Askelson hit that home run!
I watched these moms on TV and my heart went out to each and every one of them. I met Dani Kieckbusch briefly over the summer, but I felt like I knew her a lifetime because I could read her every expression. Her son is the face of Little Leaguers everywhere. On that last day, to see his sad eyes told the whole story.
The end of a journey that I will never forget.
