This past week our community lost a great person. "Grandpa" Tony Schmidt passed away, leaving a legacy that will not be forgotten. Tony was a volunteer mentor for the St. Vincent Healthcare Foster Grandparent Program where he mentored youth in the early 1990s.
This year, the Foster Grandparent Program will nationally celebrate 50 years of service. The program's success is founded on the dedication of people like Tony and the hundreds of others like him who devote their lives to helping others. As we look to the future, we are inspired by the legacy left by people who spend their retirement years making a difference. Author Robert Byrne once said, "The purpose of life is a life of purpose." We thank all who live lives of service.
