Ballots for the Billings Public School trustee election have arrived in the mail. If you live in Billings east of Lake Elmo Drive or in the North Park area, would you consider voting for me?
The school district has made many promises related to the bond passed last year. If elected, I intend to see those promises through. This will require spending restraint and efficiencies over the next four years. The school district has come a long way in this regard over the last two years, and I will keep pushing the district in this direction.
Second, if elected, I would like the school district to set goals for improving the quality of education provided by the school district. There are a lot of greatly talented people working in our school district, and I would like to free them up to provide better educational services for our students. I would like to see parents involved in this process, too, because they have insights valuable to the school district. I am more of a person who will seek solutions developed by the front lines instead of mandating solutions from on high. If need be, I'll fight the state and federal levels, so more of our funding can be directed to the classroom.
Both of my children are being educated in Billings Public Schools, so my decisions, if elected, will affect my children too. I am generally pleased with the level of education our children are getting and have found that the teachers and staff at Beartooth Elementary are great to work with. I am humbled that so many in our community think I can do this job.
