Sen. John Walsh has only been in the Senate for five months, but you wouldn't know it from his record.
Whether it's our national debt, access to public lands, or student debt, Walsh has faced these issues head on, coming up with innovative solutions that work for Montanans.
For example, Walsh introduced the CUTS act to crack down on the huge profits being grabbed from the pockets of taxpayers by private defense contractors.
And as the only Iraq veteran in the Senate, Walsh wasted no time in standing up for veterans, by introducing the Suicide Prevention for America's Veterans Act, which tackles the growing crisis of veterans' suicides. This historic legislation has garnered national attention and bipartisan support — though sadly Rep. Daines has failed to support it.
With his intimate, firsthand understanding of the conflict, Walsh is also speaking out against more involvement in Iraq. We need his informed, principled, and courageous voice to avoid another costly and historically-ill-advised war.
And while some politicians are calling for the privatizing of the beautiful public wildlands that make Montana the "Last Best Place," Walsh has stood on the floor of the Senate and explained why this is a horrible idea.
So, I hope others are paying attention to what Walsh is actually doing for us Montanans back in Washington. It certainly stands out for its positive substance, in comparison to what Congressman Daines has done.
