In response to the Jan. 16 Gazette opinion, I think it is important for the Billings community to know that Senior High School does not offer the only credit recovery program in the Billings Public Schools. West High School also has a very busy, successful NovaNet Credit Recovery program for students who need help in successfully completing important core classes they previously failed, but need for graduation.

A very dedicated group of teachers — science teachers Chuck Swarm and myself, math teacher John Gemmill and English teacher Courtney Hamblin — work very hard to help these kids, many of whom have given up on themselves academically, earn their recovery credits and boost them back onto the path, not only toward high school graduation, but also onto a path of increased confidence in what they can accomplish beyond high school.

With the expansion of the credit recovery program to an after-school setting housed at Senior High and open to students from all three high schools, hopefully even more kids can experience the success of regaining class credits and that increasingly important high school diploma.
