A Reed Point man was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a weapon Tuesday night after allegedly pointing a rifle at another man outside the Waterhole Saloon.
Ricky Lee Witz, 51, is being held in the Yellowstone County Detention Facility after being arrested by Stillwater County sheriff’s deputies.
Stillwater County Sheriff Cliff Brophy said Witz pointed a rifle at a 38-year-old man from Big Timber following an argument that began inside the saloon at 209 N. Division St. Witnesses told deputies that another person pushed the rifle away from where it was aimed and the firearm discharged once into the street.
Brophy said deputies were told that other saloon patrons then wrested the weapon from Witz, who was later taken into custody at his home on Hump Creek Road in Reed Point.
No one was injured in the incident, which took place at about 8:45 p.m. The Sweet Grass County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol assisted with the response.
