CHINOOK — State wildlife investigators are seeking help in finding out who is responsible for poaching at least six deer in the Chinook area.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department officials say five deer were found dead along a road west of Chinook on Feb. 1, including four that were confirmed to have died from bullet wounds. The fifth is still being evaluated.

The next day, two other mule deer does were found dead from bullet wounds within a half mile of the other animals. All of the deer are suspected to have been shot during two different time frames over the weekend of Jan. 29-31.

Anyone with information is asked to call FWP in Havre at 406-262-2407 or the agency's TIP-MONT hotline at 1-800-847-6668. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
