GREAT FALLS - Authorities say a small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 15 north of Craig, but no one was injured in the incident.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says the Cessna Skyhawk 2 landed safely at about 5 p.m. Friday, and traffic had to be blocked off in the southbound lane while the plane was moved. It remains unclear why the pilot, identified as Bill Burkland of Helena, was forced to land.

Dutton says Burkland, a civil engineer who had been flying to various jobs Friday, started his travels in Glasgow and stopped in Chester and Shelby before heading home to Helena.

Burkland landed before authorities arrived, but it appeared that no vehicles were on the interstate at the time.
