A 24-year-old skier was rescued Friday morning after falling in an expert ski chute north of Bozeman.

The skier, a student at Montana State University, was with three friends when he lost both skis and fell down the chute, according to a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office. He came to a stop when he hit a rock, the release said.

The chute, called "The Great One," is near Sacajawea Peak in the Bridger range north of Bozeman.

Gallatin County Search and Rescue was called to the area at about 11:45 a.m. The man, whose name was not released, suffered trauma to his back and pelvis and was unable to walk or ski out, the release said.

Search and Rescue Team volunteers were able to reach the man within an hour via all-terrain vehicles and helicopter. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Information about the man's condition was not immediately available. He was wearing a helmet.
