Attempting to entice an undercover agent posing as a young girl into having sex will send a Billings man to federal prison for 15 years.
Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull on Thursday sentenced David Arthur Sievers, 42, to the minimum mandatory 15 years and ordered a lifetime of supervised release.
Sievers said he knew what he did was wrong and was looking forward to getting sex offender treatment.
Sievers pleaded guilty in May to three counts, including coercion and enticement, transfer of obscene material to a minor and receipt of child porn. The judge dismissed three other counts.
Because Sievers had a previous sex offender conviction, he faced an enhanced minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years to 40 years on the child porn count. The mandatory sentence had to be applied under the law.
Law officers arrested Sievers in March in Lewistown when he arrived at a motel with flowers, a teddy bear, soda, alcohol and condoms for a meeting that had been arranged with an undercover officer.
A convicted child pornographer from Illinois, Sievers moved to Montana and eventually to Billings. While living in Sweet Grass County, Sievers used the Internet and a cellphone to talk to an undercover officer with the Lewistown Police Department. The officer was posing as a girl under the age of consent.
Sievers had sexually explicit chats and sent the officer photos of himself having sex with women. Officers searching Sievers’ computer and cellphone found child porn images and videos.
