BOZEMAN — Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department officials say fewer hunters got deer and elk during the last weekend of hunting season, but the total number of deer and elk killed this fall is higher than last year's take.
The hunting season ended Sunday. During the final weekend, 75 elk, 67 mule deer and 28 white-tailed deer were reported by hunters at check stations in Region 3, which includes the Madison, Gallatin and Paradise valleys. That compares to the five-year average of 145 elk, 99 mule deer and 25 white-tail deer.
