The Montana Department of Transportation announced closures on the Beartooth Highway Friday morning amid the onset of regional precipitation.
Ice and blowing snow resulted in the closure of the Beartooth Pass from Vista Point and through to the Wyoming border, according to an advisory from the department. Vista Point sits at an elevation of 9,190 feet.
The pass is completely closed on the Wyoming side.
Transportation department crews will check the roads on the Montana side throughout Friday to see if updated closures or openings are possible.
A wet weather system affecting most of the state brought rain and snow in higher elevations to a landscape parched by summer drought and fires.
