POLSON — At 2:45 p.m. Friday, the body of a Polson doctor missing since last Saturday was located in Flathead Lake just south of Big Bull Island by Two Bears Helicopter.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue boats and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office boat, who were still out searching on the water, went to the area pinpointed by the helicopter and located the body.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Enforcement boat then retrieved the body from the water, and transported it to shore. The body was transported to the Crime Lab in Missoula.

The body has been positively identified as Robert W. McDonald, the kayaker missing since July 19. McDonald was a hospitalist at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Polson.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Lake County Search and Rescue, Swan Search and Rescue, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office Marine unit, ALERT One Helicopter, Two Bears Search Helicopters and the citizens whose tips aided in the search and recovery of Dr. McDonald.
