HELENA — Gov.-elect Steve Bullock on Thursday announced some of his chief aides, tapping the three top members from his transition team and retaining Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s budget director.
Bullock and Lt. Gov.-elect John Walsh named these appointees:
-- Tim Burton, as chief of staff. Burton, who has been chief of staff under Bullock as attorney general and deputy director of the Justice Department, has been the director of Bullock’s transition team. He previously served as Helena city manager and chief administrative officer of Lewis and Clark County.
-- Dan Villa, as budget director. Villa has been budget director for Gov. Brian Schweitzer for about a year after serving as his education policy adviser. He previously served in the Montana House for three terms from Anaconda.
-- Ali Bovingdon, as deputy chief of staff. Bovingdon has been chief deputy attorney general under Bullock as attorney general and administrator of the Justice Department’s Legal Services Division. She has been deputy director of the governor-elect’s transition team.
-- Kevin O’Brien, as deputy chief of staff. O’Brien was Bullock’s campaign manager and deputy director of his transition team. He previously was communications director for the Justice Department under Bullock, a communications aide for the Montana Democratic Party and for U.S. Sen. Jon Tester.
“These folks are on my team because I personally know their commitment to public service and that they will help create even greater opportunities for the next generation,” Bullock said in a prepared statement. “I couldn’t ask for a more talented group of Montanans to help me lead the state.”
Unlike last week, when he introduced three department directors at a news conference, Bullock announced the four staff aides Thursday in a news release.
Bullock was not immediately available to answer questions about the appointments.
