BOZEMAN  — Gallatin County authorities in western Montana have taken into custody a California man they suspect shot a Butte man in the leg during an argument.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office says that officers arrested 37-year-old Luke Andrew Lapinski of Buellton, California, at about 9 p.m. Friday.

Butte-Silver Bow Undersheriff George Skuletich says officers received a report of possible shots fired at 12:15 a.m. Friday. The 38-year-old victim had a gunshot wound to his calf and drove himself to the hospital.

Sheriff Ed Lester says Lapinski was in a silver 2013 Chevrolet Corvette and arguing with the victim when Lapinski fired two shots from a handgun. One shot hit the Butte man in the leg.

Lapinski on Saturday was listed as an inmate at the Gallatin County Detention Center.
