ANACONDA - An Anaconda-Deer Lodge County commissioner charged with sexually assaulting a girl has pleaded not guilty and says he will not resign his seat on the commission.

Fifty-two-year-old Robert Pierce entered not guilty pleas Monday to sexual intercourse without consent and sexual assault of a girl, who is now 14.

Investigators say the girl reported Pierce assaulted her on at least three occasions, the first when she was in third or fourth grade.

Prosecutors say the girl called Pierce in February to confront him while her mother listened to the conversation. Court records say the girl and her mother told investigators that Pierce said if the girl pursued the allegations, he would "make her life terrible."

Pierce was arrested Friday and released after posting $20,000 bond.
