HELENA — A Connecticut man has filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to form a committee called “Draft Brian Schweitzer,” but he did not specify for which federal office.
Andrew Fredericksen, of Wolcott, Conn., filed the paperwork with the FEC on Monday. He listed himself as treasurer of the committee.
An attempt to reach Fredericksen for comment failed.
The committee is registered as one unauthorized by Schweitzer and one that intends to make independent expenditures only.
Schweitzer, Montana’s governor from 2005-2012, could not be reached for comment either. He has expressed interest in running for president in 2016, but has not declared his candidacy.
A search of campaign donation databases found no indication that Fredericksen had donated to Schweitzer’s successful campaigns for governor in 2004 and 2008 or to his unsuccessful race for the U.S. Senate in 2000.
