FARGO, N.D. — Law enforcement officials say the planned trip to the oil patch by the nation's drug czar should highlight the challenges that have come with the increased population in western North Dakota and eastern Montana.

Director of National Drug Control Policy Gil Kerlikowske has scheduled stops in Bismarck and Glendive, Mont., Friday as part of a trip organized by North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp and Montana Sen. Jon Tester.

U.S. attorneys Timothy Purdon of North Dakota and Michael Cotter of Montana say the meetings will give law enforcement at all levels a chance to discuss the unique drug trafficking threat in oil country and talk about solutions.

Watford City Police Chief Jesse Wellen says the oil patch is a "busy place" for law enforcement and he welcomes any federal assistance.
