BUTTE — A Butte man is in jail after a fight left an animal control officer with scratches on his neck.

Police say a 49-year-old Butte man attacked an animal control officer at an animal shelter.

A brawl between the two men broke out after Paul Herbert Garcia became irate while attempting to drop off a cat. Police said Garcia became enraged when the officer told him the cat must be in a carrier.

Garcia is accused of then throwing the cat into a carrier in his vehicle and proceeding to throw rocks at the officer. The two men then ended up fighting and the officer took Garcia to the ground.

Police arriving on the scene, 699 Centennial Ave., at about 3:40 p.m. Monday had to separate the two.

Garcia is in jail on misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
