BOZEMAN — Bridger Canyon Rural Fire District trustees have filed a lawsuit to stop a recall election against them.

Trustees Colleen Carnine, Mike Conn, Margaret Foster, Dennis Guentzel and Dave McKee on Thursday requested an order to stop Gallatin County Clerk and Recorder and Election Administrator Charlotte Mills from conducting the recall election.

The trustees contend the recall petition doesn't include a clear statement as to the reason for the recall and is based on legally insufficient grounds.

Mills on Nov. 27 sent a letter to the trustees telling them a petition to hold a recall had been filed.

The petition contends the reasons for the recall include official misconduct for holding unannounced meetings and failing to uphold the state constitution.
