The principal of Dawson County High School has been placed on administrative leave after physically confronting a student after school.
Last Wednesday after classes had let out, Principal Bruce Clausen confronted a freshman who was not following instructions, said Superintendent Jim Germann.
The student became "verbally abusive" as Clausen spoke to him, Germann said.
"Mr. Clausen restrained him against the wall, and it escalated," Germann said.
Germann declined to elaborate on how the incident escalated. After the confrontation, he placed Clausen on administrative leave.
The district commissioned an independent investigation into the incident. Germann brought in Billings attorney Jeff Weldon to help.
"I am counseling the district and won't produce (an investigation) report, per se," Weldon said. "I anticipate that the matter will be wrapped up this week."
While Clausen is on leave, Assistant Principal Wade Murphy will handle the day-to-day running of the high school, Germann said.
