A Hamilton man died Friday evening when he lost control of the Polaris all-terrain vehicle he was driving.

The 38-year-old driver was eastbound on Skalkaho Highway, east of Hamilton, at 8:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

The man drove off the left side of the road, went down an embankment and crashed into a group of trees, the MHP said. The driver was transported to Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, where he was pronounced dead.

Speed was a factor in the crash, the MHP said.
