A Lame Deer man denied federal charges this week that he assaulted two people with a chainsaw on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.

James Posey Fisher Sr., 28, pleaded not guilty to a three-count indictment charging him with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault serious bodily injury. Fisher was arraigned on Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby in Billings.

The indictment alleges that on March 24 in Lame Deer, Posey, also known as "James Posey Bixby," assaulted two people, identified as I.B.A. and D.R.L., with a chainsaw and caused serious injury to D.R.L.

Ostby ordered Fisher to remain in custody. If convicted, Fisher faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine. The case will be heard by U.S. District Judge Susan Watters.
