WILLISTON, N.D. -- Authorities in Williston say everything is "under control" after two shootings near the city's downtown Saturday afternoon.
The Williston Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to a call reporting shots fired around noon. A woman was treated at the scene for three nonfatal gunshot wounds and was moved to a medical facility.
The statement added that officers later "were guided" to a nearby residence where they heard one gunshot. Inside they found a male who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The statement did not elaborate further.
Officials wouldn't say whether the two shootings were connected or whether a suspect was in custody.
Two streets near the city's downtown were blocked off by authorities investigating the incidents.
On Saturday afternoon, investigators were combing through a front lawn with a metal detector at the scene of the first incident where the woman was injured. At the second crime scene, a residence was taped off.
"Everything is safe and under control," Police Detective Dave Peterson told The Associated Press.
