GREAT FALLS — The Montana Air National Guard's mission change from F-15 fighter jets to C-130 cargo planes continues.

About half the 120th Fighter Wing's F-15s have been moved to Fresno, Calif., and aviators are beginning to train for their new mission.

Lt. Col. Scott Smith starts a seven-month C-130 pilot training course next week at Little Rock Air Force Base.

Smith started out flying F-16s in 1999 and attended training in 2008 to learn to fly F-15s. He is the first member of MANG to attend the C-130 training.

C-130s fly with a crew of five and have a primary mission of moving people and cargo. The C-130s are scheduled to arrive in Great Falls next spring.
