HELENA — A female black bear died after being struck by a vehicle outside of Lincoln Tuesday afternoon.
The sow had two cubs that ran away after the crash, but wildlife officials remained at the scene into the evening to see whether they would return. The cubs will be taken to the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks rehab center in Helena if they are captured, game warden Brady Murphy said.
“The cubs are young,” he said. “They were born just a couple months ago.”
On Wednesday, FWP said wardens set a live trap in the area in an effort to capture the cubs.
Authorities responded to the scene on Montana Highway 200 after receiving a report just before 5 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
