HELENA — Lewis and Clark County Search and Rescue is looking for a missing Augusta man near the trailhead of Smith Creek southwest of Augusta.
Family members reported that Ken White, 79, had not returned home Wednesday evening, Sheriff Leo Dutton said.
“The family reported that was not unlike him to take off for a day or so,” he said. “They called back Thursday, and at that point he had been gone for 24 hours and they were concerned.”
At around 10 a.m. Thursday, friends called to report they had found White’s vehicle at the Smith Creek Trailhead. At that point, 25 members of the search and rescue team and three search dogs responded to the scene for a ground search. A highway patrol helicopter also searched the area, Dutton said.
“They found nothing,” Dutton said, adding that nothing seemed suspicious at the scene of the car.
Crews were back on the ground early Friday, with plans to begin searching with the dogs and would bring in the ground team again if it becomes practical, Dutton said.
