A Hayes woman died Tuesday night after a pickup truck struck her as she stood in the middle of Highway 2 near Harlem.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the 50-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was standing in the eastbound traffic lane when, at about 11:40 p.m., an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado struck her.

The pickup continued on and drove to the Fort Belknap police station, where the driver, who was not injured, reported what happened, the patrol said.

The Blaine County coroner declared the woman dead at the scene a short time later.

The crash remains under investigation.
