BUTTE — A 33-year-old Butte woman is accused of nearly running over a police officer with a minivan while attempting to escape.

Undersheriff George Skuletich said the officer, who was not injured, was able to grab the keys and turn off the 1999 Ford Windstar.

The incident started at about 3 p.m. Monday when the officer saw Courtney Ann Cattaneo at a Montana Street gas station. Knowing Cattaneo was wanted on a probation violation; the officer tried to apprehend her and was standing next to the driver’s side door. Cattaneo then put the minivan in reverse and attempted to flee, “almost striking the officer,” Skuletich said.

“She was dragging him through the lot a little ways,” he added.

Cattaneo is in jail on felony charges of criminal endangerment and escape. She also faces a probation violation stemming from a felony theft conviction.
