Christopher M. Elliott, 22, has been identified as the Pennsylvania man who drowned in East Rosebud Lake on July 24, according to Carbon County Undersheriff Dan McJunkin.

Elliott was swimming in the lake when his friends saw him go under but never come up, McJunkin said.

Officials searched the lake for more than a week but weren't able to recover his body until Saturday.

McJunkin said several dive teams from the region searched the lake but their efforts were hampered by thick, deep vegetation at the bottom of the lake.

An autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of Elliott's death.
