BISMARCK, N.D. — A 16-year-old Sidney girl died in a crash in McKenzie County.

According to a statement from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, State Radio received a report of a crash involving serious injuries on Cheney Creek Road, about 14 miles from Sidney, at 6:19 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigation showed two 16-year-old girls from Sidney were in a 1999 Ford Explorer driving south on the road when the driver lost control. The vehicle ran onto the west shoulder, then overturned on the road. Both girls were thrown from the vehicle, and one of them died from her injuries.

The Highway Patrol has not determined which of the girls was driving the vehicle and has not released the names of the girls. The crash remains under investigation. Also involved in the case are the Sidney Ambulance Service, Sidney Fire Department, McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, Montana Highway Patrol and the Richland County, Mont., Sheriff’s Office.
