HELENA — Funeral services are scheduled on July 8 for Rep. David Halvorson, R-Sidney, who died Monday in Sidney.

The Sidney Herald reported that Halvorson, 64, died in the Sidney Health Center. He was diagnosed with cancer during his first session as a legislator in Helena this year, the newspaper reported.

The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 8 at Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. that day at Strordahl Lutheran Cemetery, near Wild Rose, N.D. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is handling the arrangements.

Halvorson was a Sidney native and graduated from Williston, N.D., High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota in 1970.

Halvorson returned to Montana in 1974 and worked as a radio and television broadcaster, a voice-over announcer for broadcast advertisements and as a truck driver.

He later served in Helena a number of sessions as a staff member of the Montana House of Representatives or Senate, working in a number of capacities under both Republican and Democratic leadership. He often worked as a bill reader.

Halvorson also worked for a period as executive director of the Montana Right to Life Association.

He was single and had no children.
