BUTTE — Butte police often get complaints of someone spray-painting buildings or playground equipment, but Wednesday was a first: A baby llama.

And not a fake yard ornament llama. A real baby llama.

A resident in the 500 block of Little Basin Creek Road told police his young llama was sprayed with red paint sometime Wednesday morning. The baby llama (which is called a "cria") had paint mostly on the right side of its body, but the animal didn't suffer ill health effects from the incident, police reported.

The owner suspects the incident occurred sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Police questioned residents in the area about suspicious activity.

The incident remained under investigation Thursday.

People with information can call the police department non-emergency number, 406-497-1120.
