Smokey Bear turns 70 this year, and to celebrate the BLM will be giving away 100 free tickets to children for the movie “Planes: Fire and Rescue” on Sunday at the Montana Theater in Miles City.

The BLM Eastern Montana/Dakotas District Fire Program, Custer County Fire Department and Fire Safe Montana is hosting the matinee, which will show at 2 p.m. Smokey Bear and his firefighting friends will be giving away the tickets and talking about fire prevention beginning at 1:30 p.m. outside the Montana Theater.

The character Smokey Bear has been the focal point of the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history. Since 1944 the Ad Council, ad agency FCB West and the Forest Service have helped Smokey deliver his well-known message: “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires.”
