A Lame Deer man died Friday night after he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 212 near Ashland.

The accident happened just before 9:30 p.m. at mile marker 61.6, south of Ashland, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

A 63-year-old man from Washington was driving a 1998 BMW eastbound on the highway when his car struck the 54-year-old Lame Deer man who was walking in the eastbound lane. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Alcohol was not a factor, the MHP said. It is not known whether speed was. The accident remains under investigation.
